Nestlé e XPO Logistics constroem o armazém digital do futuro no Reino Unido

A Nestlé, que é a maior empresa de alimentos e bebidas do mundo, e a XPO Logistics, fornecedora global líder de soluções de transporte e logística, têm estado a criar em conjunto um centro de distribuição de 60.000 m² no novo Parque Logístico SEGRO East Midlands Gateway em Leicestershire, no Reino Unido. As instalações, sitas num moderno armazém digital futurista, estarão principalmente ocupadas pela Nestlé para os seus produtos de consumo empacotados e também servirão de plataforma de banco de provas para protótipos de tecnologia concebidas pela XPO antes do seu lançamento à esfera global.

The custom-designed distribution centre, scheduled to complete in 2020, will feature advanced sorting systems and robotics alongside state-of-the-art automation co-developed with Swisslog Logistics Automation. The site’s digital ecosystem will integrate predictive data and intelligent machines to deliver one of the most advanced distribution management centres in the world, giving consumers faster, more efficient access to KITKAT, MAGGI, NESCAFÉ and other much-loved Nestlé brands.

As instalações, propriedade da XPO, ficarão estrategicamente situadas em Midlands, no Reino Unido, como forma de aproveitar o acesso directo à auto-estrada M1 no caso dos transportes rodoviários, o aeroporto de East Midlands para o transporte aéreo e a uma terminal ferroviária de mercadorias in situ com acesso directo aos principais portos britânicos de Southampton, Felixstowe, London Gateway e ao Túnel do Canal da Mancha.

As instalações vão ser construídas em cima de planaltos artificiais com um paisagismo que minimiza o impacto visual nos lugares vizinhos. Outras medidas de sustentabilidade são a iluminação LED de baixo consumo, a refrigeração com amoníaco amigo do ambiente, as bombas de calor com fonte de ar para as zonas de administração e o aproveitamento das águas pluviais.      

Nestlé Director of Supply Chain David Hix said: “We are thrilled to be working with XPO Logistics to build a flagship digital warehouse and technology laboratory at the East Midlands Gateway Logistics Park. This is a world-first investment for Nestlé that builds on a century and a half of proud history in this country. Our partnership with XPO will encourage innovation and experimentation in our UK logistics operations and help futureproof our business. We will be able to be even more responsive for our customers across our brands, which include some of the most recognisable in the world.”
